About Chuguev city

The city was established on the 10^th of August, 1638 by Cossacks in the valley of Severskii Donec river. At the beginning of the XIX century Chuguev was a center of 8 districts of military settlements, famous Malinovka is one of them.

Today the area of Chuguev region is 1148,6 km². Administrative center is a city of regional subordination – Chuguev.

Geographical location:

Chuguev city is situated on the right side of the Severckii Donec river:

• urban village Kochetok is located at the distance of 4 km upstream;
• urban village Eshar is located at the distance of 4 km downstream;
• urban village Malinovka and village Klugino–Bashkirovka is located on the opposite side o the river.

The roads М-03(E40), Т-2111 and Р-07 go through the city.

Railway and railway station «Chuguev» are situated very close to the city.

Chuguev is a city of regional subordination (regional centre) in the Kharkiv region, it is located 20 km away to the South-East from Kharkiv and included in Kharkiv agglomeration.

Distance from regional centre to Kharkiv:

• By railway – 48 km (it takes about 50 minutes to get to the Kharkiv city);
• By automobile transport – 20 km.

Today Chuguev is a significant industrial, transportation and cultural centre of Kharkiv region.

The history of Chuvuev is connected with many famous persons. Notable residents of the city are Ilya Repin (1844 – 1930) – the artist; E.O. Mukhin (1766 – 1850) – the doctor of the military-medical academy, the author of the surgery textbook, Jaroslav Grimajlo – the writer, Boris Alekseevich Chichibabin – the soviet and Russian poet, laureate of USSR State Prize.

Chuguev Air-Force college was graduated by thrice-Hero of the Soviet Union I. Kozhedub and 10 pilots-cosmonauts, among them is Alexei Leonov.

Sights of Chuguev region are:

• Local natural landscape reserves «Malinovsky» and «Kochetokskaya Lesnaya Dacha»;
• Local entomological reserves «Mospanovsky», «Mihailovsky» and «Studenok»;
• a unique Museum of water in the Kochetok.

Near Chuguev city there is a small complex «Ocinovoe Pleso» which attracts vacationers by wonderful buildings of an ethnic nature. In addition, summer and healthy camps for children are located on the sides of the Severskii Donec river. The city is also known as a tourist center.
