The city was established on the 10th of August, 1638 by Cossacks in the valley of Severskii Donec river. At the beginning of the XIX century Chuguev was a center of 8 districts of military settlements, famous Malinovka is one of them. Today the area of Chuguev region is 1148,6 km2. The roads М-03(E40), Т-2111 and Р-07 go through the city. Railway and railway station «Chuguev» are situated very close to the city. Today Chuguev is a significant industrial, transportation and cultural centre of Kharkiv region. The history of Chuvuev is connected with many famous persons. Notable residents of the city are Ilya Repin (1844 – 1930) – the artist; E.O. Mukhin (1766 – 1850) – the doctor of the military-medical academy, the author of the surgery textbook, Jaroslav Grimajlo – the writer, Boris Alekseevich Chichibabin – the soviet and Russian poet, laureate of USSR State Prize. Near Chuguev city there is a small complex «Ocinovoe Pleso» which attracts vacationers by wonderful buildings of an ethnic nature. In addition, summer and healthy camps for children are located on the sides of the Severskii Donec river. The city is also known as a tourist center. |
